1968-1996

On May 25, 1996, the world lost a man who loved life, his family, and music more then anything else. Sadly though, it was the thing he hated- his drug addiction- that took his life. Now we can all say how stupid Bradley Nowell was for trying any drugs, or for letting it get to the point where he couldn't overcome his problem..But in all reality there was not a person who knew more about thier problems then Brad. This is most obvious in his music of all things. Listen to the song "Pool Shark" and notice how Bradley makes it clear he has a problem, and that it one day may take his life. "..One day i'm gonna lose the war.."

Most people cannot look past his apparent drug addiction, but those who knew Brad, also knew what he really was like. His passion for music and his love for his wife, child, family, and friends was what made Bradley who he was. Just a week before his unfortunate overdose to heroin, Brad married his long time girlfriend Troy Dendekker, who was also the mother to his 11 month old boy, Jakob. When Brad learned of Troy being pregnant, he desperately tried cleaning up his life. His new marriage, his son, and the success of his band however did not keep his demons away. After two months of being clean, Brad took a hit of heroin...the same hit that took his life.

Brad was, according to friends and family, a loving and very smart man. He recieved good grades at Wilson High School, despite the attention disorder he was diagnosed with when he was younger. At UCLB, Brad was just one semester away from a degree in finance when he dropped out for Sublime. All that knew Brad, knew a loving, smart, and incredibly talented man and I only wish I could of had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace Brad, for your demons are at a rest now.
